CAIRO, EGYPT – 28 September 2026 – H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, today inaugurated Egypt Mining Forum 2026, opening the largest edition in the Forum’s history as ministers, mining executives, investors, international institutions and technical leaders gathered in Cairo.

Held under the patronage of H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and supported by the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA), the Forum comes as Egypt advances reforms intended to increase mineral exploration, attract investment and build a stronger pipeline of commercially viable mining projects.

In his address, H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, affirmed the Egyptian State’s commitment to ensuring the success of investments by companies and business leaders, whether in mining or any other sector.

Egypt’s mining investment agenda

H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Arab Republic of Egypt, delivered the ministerial keynote, “Egypt’s Next Chapter in Mineral Exploration and Investment.” The address set out the government’s direction for mineral exploration and investment, including reforms to licensing, fiscal terms, fees, permitting and exploration incentives.

The Minister outlined a series of measures to strengthen Egypt’s mining investment framework, including the restructuring of the Mineral Resources Authority into the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority as an economic authority, the introduction of a one-stop-shop service for investors, and a new model for gold exploitation agreements designed to provide greater clarity and flexibility. He also highlighted amendments to the Executive Regulations to support greater flexibility in research and exploration, alongside targeted incentives to reduce the costs and risks associated with early-stage exploration

“Egypt is opening its doors to serious mining investments and welcomes partnerships based on long-term investment, the transfer of knowledge and technology, and maximizing the added value of our mineral resources.

We are committed to continuing to develop the investment environment to make it more attractive, listening to you, and working to remove challenges, allowing your investments to be directed towards research, exploration and production activities.”

The strategic programme focuses on the issues determining whether mineral potential converts into investment and production: regulatory clarity, access to geological data, early-stage exploration, junior mining participation, project finance, critical minerals, base metals, downstream processing and the progression from discovery to mine development.

Global industry perspectives

The Opening Ceremony also brought international perspectives on Egypt’s mining ambitions. Alberto Calderon, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of AngloGold Ashanti, addressed the role of partnership in building the country’s mining sector. Doug Horak, Chief Executive Officer of the Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group, focused on expanding Australia’s exploration and mining investment footprint in Egypt. Rohitesh Dhawan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), examined Egypt’s potential as a regional critical minerals hub, while Namrata Thapar, Global Director, Metals and Minerals at the World Bank Group, addressed the role of policy reform and investment frameworks in unlocking mineral wealth.

Across 28–29 September, Egypt Mining Forum brings together more than 6,000 attendees from over 50 countries. The global exhibition features 100+ companies, while more than 500 delegates and 100 speakers are participating across the Strategic and Technical Conferences.

Day One discussions examine the conditions required to attract exploration capital and move projects through the development cycle, including investment frameworks, critical minerals and base metals, responsible gold value chains and the role of mining in wider industrial and downstream growth.

The Technical Conference is designed to keep mining professionals at the forefront of industry change, bringing together the latest technologies, technical breakthroughs and real-world project insights shaping how the next generation of exploration and mine development will be delivered.

Under the theme “Unlocking Egypt and the Arabian Nubian Shield’s Exploration Potential,” Egypt Mining Forum continues on 29 September at The St. Regis New Capital, Cairo.

Registration remains open for the second and final day of Egypt Mining Forum on 29 September. More information here: www.egyptminingforum.com.
