Until recently, ING Real Estate was one of the largest Real Estate companies in the world. However, as part of the Back to Basics strategy of ING Group, it was decided in early 2009 for the Real Estate activities to be split and individual entities either internally transferred, divested or wound down. As per January 1, 2010 the Real Estate Finance activities have been transferred to the lending activities of the ING Commercial Bank where it continues to operate its mandate. During the course of 2010 and 2011, most of the ING Real Estate Investment Management activities have been divested.. ING Real Estate & Other combines the remaining activities of ING Real Estate Development and ING Real Estate Investment Management focusing on a smooth run down of the remaining Real Estateportfolio by means of asset sales. This expertise is also being applied to actively manage or assist in winding down Real Estate portfolios from within ING or from third parties. As part of this strategy, the wind down of ING’s general lease activities in six European countries is also actively managed by a separate management team within Real Estate & Other.
