Long Run Investment Management LLC was founded by Gregory W. Smith, CFA, CFP®. After seeing a need for independent, fee-only financial advice with extensive investment experience, Greg founded his company to pursue his passion of helping others achieve their lifetime goals. Before starting The Long Run, Greg worked for several large financial institutions. He held various senior level positions at Bank of America, including Director of Technology for BofA’s subsidiary Trade Street Investment Advisors, a $200 billion investment firm. He was also an assistant director at American Century. Most recently, he worked for Morningstar, the leading independent research and ratings firm. Greg has a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Akron. Greg holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA), which denotes individuals who have successfully passed three rigorous examinations in the areas of ethics, capital markets, investment analysis, portfolio management, statistics, and economics. Greg is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) practitioner, which also gives him background in estate planning, taxation, and retirement planning. Greg is an avid runner and races distances from 1 to 100 miles. He incorporates much of the same discipline in long distance running and competitive racing — commitment to a goal, consistency, patience and persistence through tough times into his business practice.
