orthwood Symonds Ltd was founded in 1999 by Syd Symonds and David Purvis. Their professional careers began within the same insurance company, Imperial Life of Canada, progressing to positions as Independent Financial Advisers within firms in North and East London. In the early days of Northwood Symonds, the main focus was to offer our clients a value package without bias towards commissions and/or exceptional fees payable by insurance companies Our ethos at Northwood Symonds The firm quickly established that the way forward for Independent Financial Adviser firms and clients alike was to offer a WRAP or e-based proposition, where appropriate, ensuring whatever the solution to client needs, it was to be offered at one price only. This style, although unpopular with the industry at the time, proved to be enormously popular with our clients, both corporate and individual, as it ensured that our advice was uncluttered by way of any financial inducements. Some years later we find that ridding the industry of financial inducements is endorsed by the Financial Conduct Authority and is the backbone behind their Retail Distribution Review (RDR). The company is now run solely by Managing Director, Syd Symonds while David Purvis, although retired from full time advising, still controls all aspects of our research and development into investment funds and opportunities. Over the years we have added expertise in mortgage, annuity, protection and corporate pension capabilities in order that the firm can offer clients a complete bespoke service covering all areas of their financial requirements.
