8 February 1919 Pocztowa Kasa Oszczędności (PKO) is founded 1920 PKO becomes a legal entity as a state-owned institution 1939 the War hinders the Bank's operations 1945 the Bank resumes its operations 1949-1950 Pocztowa Kasa Oszczędności is transformed into Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności 1974 a new service is introduced: savings-giro accounts (ROR) for retail customers 1975 PKO is included in the structures of NBP, its separate identity being maintained 1987 PKO becomes an independent bank once again 1992 The statute conferred to the Bank by the Council of Ministers officially contains the name Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności - Bank Państwowy, abbreviated as PKO BP. 12 April 2000 the Bank is transformed into a joint-stock company wholly owned by the State Treasury, under the name PKO Bank Polski Spółka Akcyjna 10 November 2004 successful IPO 10 December 2007 PKO BP opens its first foreign branch in London 14 September 2008 Completion of implementation of an Integrated IT System O-ZSI network in the Bank
