Cairo, Egypt, 17 February 2025

His Excellency, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt, alongside His Excellency, President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus, inaugurated the EGYPES 2025. This significant event symbolizes the strengthened ties and collaborative efforts between the two nations, focusing on fostering progress and innovation for a fruitful future.

During the inaugural ceremony of EGYPES 2025, the Egyptian President Sisi met with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to their partnership and encouraging Eni to expand its exploration and production activities within the country. Descalzi affirmed Eni's dedication to strengthening its strategic relationship with Egypt, recognizing its vital role as a regional energy and gas hub. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi also met with the President of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema, where both leaders underscored the importance of deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation. President Sisi reiterated Egypt's willingness to contribute to Equatorial Guinea's development, highlighting Egypt's commitment to supporting African nations and its belief in shared continental destiny.

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, HE Eng Karim Badawi highlighted the abundant opportunities within Egypt's energy sector, spanning oil and gas exploration, conventional energy production, and the development of renewable energy sources, including green hydrogen. He emphasized the government's commitment to removing obstacles for investors and both local and international partners, fostering a favorable environment for mutually beneficial ventures. This commitment, he noted, has been recognized by international institutions, which predict continued growth in the Egyptian energy market. His Excellency Engineer Badawi expressed confidence in the sector's ability to fulfill the aspirations of the Egyptian people for a brighter future, citing the unwavering support of the political leadership, comprehensive government strategies, well-defined action plans, and collaborative efforts across ministries and with partners.

The Saudi Minister of Oil, Abdel Aziz Bin Salman expressed his sincere appreciation for the Arab Republic of Egypt, its esteemed leadership, and its people, underscoring the robust and deeply rooted fraternal relations that exist between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt at all levels. He commended the leadership of Egypt and its valued populace, conveying his greetings and emphasizing the shared sense of national belonging, wherein Saudi Arabia considers itself an integral part of Egypt, just as Egypt is considered an integral part of the Kingdom. Addressing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, the Saudi Minister of Energy highlighted the close and rapidly progressing collaboration, citing numerous significant projects undertaken in recent times. He noted the strengthened partnership in the field of energy efficiency, exemplified by the cooperation between the Saudi and Egyptian Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity to develop a comprehensive national program for energy efficiency in the Arab Republic of Egypt. This initiative aims to transfer the Kingdom's successful experience, including regulatory frameworks and capacity building, to support the development of this vital sector in Egypt. The potential establishment of a joint entity specializing in projects to rehabilitate national government buildings for the purpose of achieving energy efficiency is also under consideration.

Furthermore, he referenced the operation of five Saudi projects in Egypt within the renewable energy sector, encompassing both solar and wind energy initiatives. He noted that the largest wind energy project to date will be established, further augmenting Egypt's renewable energy capabilities. The Minister also highlighted the electrical interconnection project between the two nations, the largest of its kind in the region. Upon completion of its various phases next year, this project will facilitate the exchange of 3 gigawatts of electrical energy, contributing significantly to bolstering the energy sectors of both countries and enhancing their capacity to manage energy demand and peak load pressures by leveraging surplus production.

Eni's CEO, Claudio Descalzi, emphasized his company's 70-year history in Egypt and expressed enthusiasm for a new energy partnership with Egypt and Cyprus. This collaboration will develop the Kronos natural gas field in Cyprus, utilizing Egypt's infrastructure for maximum efficiency. Descalzi highlighted this agreement as a symbol of successful cooperation, extending beyond energy to promote economic growth, sustainability, and regional opportunities. He reaffirmed Eni's commitment to this partnership and thanked President El-Sisi and the Egyptian government for hosting the Egypt Energy Show Conferences, which showcases the Eastern Mediterranean's growing importance in global energy security.

John Chrisman, CEO of Apache Corporation, underscored the significance of the Egypt Energy Show Conferences in shaping the future of energy. He expressed pride in Apache's 30-year partnership with the Egyptian petroleum sector, where they are now the leading producer. Chrisman reiterated the company's dedication to supporting Egypt's development as a regional energy hub and acknowledged the valuable support of President El Sisi and Minister Badawi. Looking ahead, Apache plans to increase oil and gas production in Egypt. He also highlighted Apache's environmental achievements, including a one-million-ton reduction in emissions over three years, and their contributions to local communities through health, education, and other initiatives.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, witnessed the signing of the first two agreements between the two countries to start developing Cypriot natural gas discoveries, using Egyptian infrastructure. The two agreements come within the framework of the Ministry of Petroleum's strategy to transform Egypt into a regional center for natural gas trade and circulation, by receiving gas produced from Eastern Mediterranean discoveries and directing it to the local market and re-exporting it to Europe.

The first agreement was signed by HE Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Mr. George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus, and Eng. Claudio Descalzi, Chairman of the Italian company Eni.

The second agreement was signed by HE Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Mr. George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus, and Mr. Clay Neff, President of Chevron Corporation for Exploration and Production Activities.

The two agreements are an important step towards enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus in the field of energy, and represent the beginning of developing Cypriot discoveries using Egyptian facilities, while negotiations continue to bring more Cypriot gases to Egypt. Egypt and Saudi Arabia signed two Memorandum of Understanding on an Executive Plan for Cooperation in the Field of Energy Efficiency and on Renewable Energy Contract in Egypt.
