In late 2007, RBS successfully led the consortium bid for ABN AMRO. Building on our already extensive relationships with corporates, financial institutions and governments in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, the ABN AMRO transaction will extend our presence to more than 50 countries, improving our ability to meet your needs around the globe. This integration will bring considerable strengths in equities, corporate finance/advisory, emerging markets and transaction banking (cash management and trade finance). Strong business relationships Over the 12 years following the establishment of ABN AMRO's Romanian operations, they built an impressive history for developing strong business relationships with multinational corporations, medium-sized international companies doing cross-border business with Romania and local companies with growth potential. Their corporate banking unit operated out of Bucharest and had 14 full service branches in the following cities: Cluj, Timisoara, Brasov, Ploiesti, Constanta, Arad, Sibiu, Pitesti, Craiova, Oradea, Bacau, Galati, Iasi and Tirgu-Mures. They had specialist knowledge in sectors like industrials and automotive industries, consumer industries, integrated energy, telecommunication and healthcare. Their thorough understanding of the dynamics of these sectors combined with a strong local presence put them in an ideal position to advise their clients and to offer them the best banking services. For international clients, they had an international desk which could help with all specialist knowledge needed entering the Romanian market.
