Salem Capital Partners, LP ("SCP") was formed in 1999 with investments from two institutional investors and ten individual investors from the piedmont area of North Carolina. The driving force behind the formation of SCP was Southern Community Bank and Trust, whose parent company is Southern Community Financial Corp (NASDAQ: SCMF). The Bank had a desire to invest a portion of its capital in a slightly higher-risk/higher-return investment. Additionally, the Bank wanted its commercial customers to have access to these services. In May of 2000, SCP was licensed by the US Small Business Administration as a Small Business Investment Company ("SBIC"). This license enabled SCP to join the select group of investment funds with access to leveraged capital made available by the SBIC Program. http://www.sba.gov/INV/ In December 2000, SCP opened a satellite office in Atlanta to augment the investing efforts of the Winston-Salem, North Carolina office. From these two current locations, SCP seeks to invest in companies through out the Southeastern United States; primarily including those states from Maryland to Florida, Tennessee and Alabama. From its inception in 1999 to early 2004, Salem Capital Partners operated under the name of Venture Capital Solutions. The name was subsequently changed to better reflect its business and better suit its clients.
