The areas in which we help our clients may seem basic or complex and no two situations are the same. Over the years we have heard people ask what does a financial planner do? That is a great question and the answer differs from firm to firm. In our firm, our work is wide and varied. Examples include: 1. Being a sounding board for clients wanting to make financial decisions (like buying a house, when to retire, negotiating their salary package for a new job) and asking our advice to ensure they are making the right decision. 2. Giving advice and a plan to help clients know how much they need when they retire, how much income they can expect to receive, whether they may qualify for Centrelink (age pension), giving some indication as to how long their money may last in retirement. 3. Planning for unexpected events and being there for our clients when these events happen. For example: a job promotion, a redundancy, the birth of a baby, an accident or serious health event such as cancer, death of a family member etc 4. Establishing an estate plan for clients and their family members (eg elderly parents or children) which includes facilitating Wills, Powers of Attorney, Powers of Guardianship and Advance Health Directives 5. Helping families budget and save. This often involves reviewing their mortgage and then setting up a plan to help them manage their day to day expenses and plan for the future. We pride ourselves on our transparency and charge on a ‘Fee for Service/Advice’ basis and we are not commission driven.
