The 12th edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), scheduled to take place in Egypt, announces that the National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) will be responsible for managing and selecting volunteers. Furthermore, the National Training Academy (NTA), a member of the National Alliance, will oversee the training and qualification of volunteers for their respective roles during the Forum. However, the committee which has overseen the World Youth Forum will be tasked with organizing and coordinating WUF12 activities, building upon their significant experience in orchestrating prominent international events in Egypt in recent years.

Cairo to host World Urban Forum (WUF12) on Nov. 4-8

Egypt will receive delegations from various countries, high-level officials, and prominent figures to participate in the activities of the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12). This esteemed event is organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the Ministry of Local Development from November 4th to 8th, 2024. The forum is a significant global event on the UN agenda focusing on urbanization and sustainable, inclusive urban development.

Over the course of five days, WUF12 will welcome a multitude of participants from various parts of the world. Thus, it will include representatives from regional and international governments, corporations, community leaders, city designers, and civil society organizations. WUF12 will also feature more than 600 events, an expanded urban exhibition, and Cairo Urban Week, a program of activities fostering a connection between the Forum and society.

Moreover, the main sessions of the Forum will be broadcast live in all six United Nations languages, in addition to international and Arab sign languages. These sessions will also feature a special event hosted by the Egyptian Government to shed the light on Egypt's experience on the global level, which is related to comprehensive development, enhancing the environmental framework, infrastructure, and social aspects. It will also emphasize prioritizing the living standards for the entire population and ensuring a decent life for all citizens. Furthermore, the event will also demonstrate Egypt’s achievements in green transformation, promoting inclusive and sustainable recovery, and implementing the National Climate Change Strategy.

Furthermore, the decision to host this international event in Egypt, as the first African country in 20 years, demonstrates its pioneering international and regional role as an epicenter for development, urbanization, and peace. Hence, Egypt has made exceptional progress in advancing integrated urban development and was among the first countries to adopt the new urban agenda. This progress is evident in numerous national and urban projects, including fourth-generation cities, initiatives to improve citizens' quality of life, such as the Decent Life Project and the elimination of slums, as well as significant improvements in facilities and infrastructure such as water, sanitation, and electricity. These developments have positively impacted citizens' lives and improved Egypt's standing in various international indicators.
