Background Issam Bakir, who also goes by Sam, was raised in southern Lebanon and came to the United States to study engineering in 1968. He met his wife, Beverly Clark, while they were both students at the University of Texas at Austin in the early 70's. Beverly is a native Austinite with family ties to Round Rock where her great-great grandfather emigrated from Sweden in 1859. They were married in June of 1973. Then, in early 1974, Issam was hired by an American company to work as a consultant to the oil company in Iran. They lived in Iran for 4 years where Issam specialized in cathodic protection, and Beverly worked in the transportation department of Sedco-Sediran. In 1978, Issam and Beverly moved to Kuwait where Issam formed a joint venture with a British company. Over the next 9 years, he established a European-based international engineering company along with an engineering design office in England. They returned to Round Rock in 1987 with their oldest son, Tarik, who was born in Kuwait in 1985. Their youngest son, Trevor, was born in Round Rock in 1989. In 1989 TNT Financial Services, Inc., named after Sam's two sons, was formed as an independent company. This formation has allowed Sam to have a more personal relationship with his clients. Sam is a member of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce Momentum Club and is presently on the board of the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce. Sam’s interests include Karate; he is a black belt in Tai Kwon Do. And he is a bit of a history buff.
