In January 2009, with the financial support of six large asset managers, Matt Celebuski started a quantitative analysis and trading operation at the boutique agency broker, SJ Levinson. The common goals of these asset managers were to understand their trading costs, provide a plan to lower the costs, and take full control of their trading and routing decisions away from a sell side that was perceived to hold client interests secondary to their own. Uncertainty and instability in financial markets meant that the top research and technology talent across Wall Street were willing to take a chance on a startup with a long term vision of providing the highest quality research and technology platforms, and placing that information directly onto its clients’ desktops and internal technology infrastructure. Within months, research and technology teams started the tasks of tick data collection, building libraries of financial models, client trade data collection, and programming a visualization and reporting suite for delivery to client desktops. After two years of intense research and development our systems went into full production. Clients were in full control of their trading and trade cost visualization and the results were everything we hoped and the clients had asked for. In the years hence we’ve continued improvements and refinements in collaboration with our clients and rebranded the firm as Trade informatics to reflect to the marketplace our true value proposition – “Transforming Data Into Actionable Knowledge”.
