Philosophy TT believes that markets are structurally inefficient, principally because they insufficiently discount geopolitical and other macro factors and because persistent behavioural biases cause asset prices to diverge from underlying fair value. Therefore we believe that to succeed in global markets, a manager must integrate informed top-down views with robust company analysis. To reveal asset mispricing, nothing substitutes for fundamental analysis guided by skill, experience, independent thinking and sound judgment. At the critically important level of stock-picking, a manager must think pragmatically, be flexible on style, and choose which valuation tools to apply and which risk factors to weight most heavily on a case by case basis. Finally, we believe that best decisions result when respected professionals are encouraged to constructively challenge each other’s ideas but where an individual accepts ultimate accountability for a portfolio and its performance.
