In the early seventies, Atty. Limneo Laurel Platon saw the need to provide a way to help extend rural credit to small farmers and deserving rural industries in his hometown of Talisay. With his foresight and determination to help improve the economic development of his hometown, in 1972, with the help of her mother, Doña Maria Laurel Platon, he established the first and only rural bank in his town, the Rural Bank of Talisay (Batangas), Inc. To ensure a wider participation and provider of capital, together with her mother, Atty. Platon gathered the prominent families in the town at that time and invited them as original incorporators viz., Alfredo B. Laurel, Sr., Alberto B. Laurel, Venancio Trinidad, Jr., Vicente de Leon and Dominga G. Collantes. As founders of the Bank, and after the certificate to operate was obtained from the Central Bank of the Philippines in 1972, Atty. Platon and her mother were elected as the first Bank President and Chairperson, respectively. From a humble beginning, the Bank has now moderately grown to over P200 Million in resources with a current application for the increased in capitalization from P 20 Million pesos to P 70 Million pesos. Over the span of over 40 years, ownership has changed hands but the management of the Bank remains with the Platon family. Today, the Bank is majority owned and managed by the sons of Atty. Platon, viz, Virgilio Benigno L. Platon and Marito L. Platon who serve as its Chairman/President and Vice-Chairman/vice-President, respectively. With the steady support and stewardship of its Bank Manager, and the dedicated employees whom the Bank has taken pride to have employed with throughout the years, the Bank all through these years has not only established a solid financial foundation to serve its stakeholders but also continuously helped achieved the objectives of its founders, that is to help in the economic development of the local community. Espousing a moderate growth strategy, the Vision of the Bank is to be the premier provider of banking and financial services in the Southern Tagalog Region. Its Mission is to provide products and services at reasonable terms with superior service satisfying the needs of its clients in order to become the partner of choice of its clients and community. The Bank is located at Gen. Laurel St. in the town of Talisay, and offers retail, commercial, mortgage and agricultural loan products. It also accepts savings and time deposits. It also offers money transfer services in partnership with Western Union Money Transfer. The Bank is a member of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines and the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation.
