Through his time at firms such as Turner Investments and later Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn, Gui had developed a very strong point-of-view on sales and distribution. At the same time he noticed how the rigors of sales and marketing took away from boutique asset manager’s ability to focus on what they do best – manage money. Dakota represented Gui’s belief that his specific approach offered through an independent distribution firm could fill an important void for money managers. Dakota started with one partner, Edgewood Management and has grown steadily since. Today we work with a wide range of firms who have come to us almost entirely on recommendations from other partners. As we have grown and evolved our defined and process oriented approach remains largely the same. It has proven its ability to raise capital and quickly and efficiently get our partner’s strategies into sales cycles.
