It was 1969 when Judi Rosso began working as an accountant for L.A. Wright, a franchise of a company that specialized in increasing the profitability of service stations. Judi had intended to return to the engineering program at the University of Detroit, but found she liked accounting better. Rick Cech was working for Leaseway Transportation, a business that operated a group of trucking companies. He started as a warranty clerk and worked his way up to controller/treasurer. Later, he owned a microfilm service bureau and a video rental concession business, a forerunner of today's supermarket video rental boxes. Rick sold one of his businesses and was looking for tax and accounting opportunities and came across L.A. Wright. The company hired him as an accounting contractor in 1987. That's also when he met Judi Rosso. A couple of years later, one of Rick's clients insisted on working with a CPA, and Rick did not have that license, though he had the education and training. So Rick took the CPA exam and went through a two-year internship with a CPA firm. In 1991 he decided it was time to start his own CPA firm. And then in 1996, Rick bought out LA. Wright. Though Judi had been an accountant for years, she also was not a CPA. So after she took the CPA exam and completed her two-year internship with what was now Rick's new company, Judi too officially became a CPA. She also became Rick's partner in Cech, Rosso & Company. Rick has since earned a Certified Valuation Analyst certification, indicating he has the professional knowledge and experience to work with clients on complex tax and business planning issues, including business valuations. Judi still handles tax returns for clients who started working with her when she first got into the accounting business. One of her special areas of expertise is dealing with the IRS and the state of Michigan to help people resolve tax issues. Judi has been successful in getting both the IRS and state governments to agree to reduce the amount of taxes someone owes, set up a payment plan, and even wave penalties, and that includes for non-profits. Judi's “unofficial" talent is information technology. She's the office “go to" person for all things computer. So if you have questions about QuickBooks, you know whom to call.
