There are two broad categories of accounting services: traditional engagements and nontraditional engagements. Traditional engagements are what come to mind when most people think about accountants. What does your CPA do? Oh, they do my taxes, prepare my financial statements and payroll, they may even perform external audits. Most accounting firms specialize in these practice areas. In nontraditional engagements, accountants roll up their sleeves and dig deep into financial and non-financial issues not addressed by traditional accounting services. It may involve internal audit, data analysis, risk assessments, performance measurement, litigation support, fraud investigations, and other agreed-upon procedures. It’s an exciting side of accounting that is flexible, creative, and innovative. Since traditional accounting is designed to provide a high level overview, it often can’t answer the questions of who, what, when, where, or why on many subjects. That information is buried in the details and is strongly correlated to what is happening off the books. The goal of nontraditional engagements is to gain knowledge that helps to make decisions, save or recover money, improve profit, reduce liability, and solve problems. WHAT WE DO Nontraditional engagements are our only service. We do not provide traditional accounting services. Professionals can take many different paths and it is impossible to be an expert in everything. By narrowing the scope, we are able to invest resources into targeted subjects. Additionally, the work we do requires independence and impartiality. By not mixing traditional and nontraditional engagements, we limit conflicts of interest. WHO WE SERVE We primarily serve organizations that have an interest in healthcare, insurance, and litigation. For example, healthcare providers, insurance carriers, employee benefit plans, third party administrators, non-profits, government, and attorneys. These organizations have specialized needs and we continually focus our attention on subjects that can benefit them. Scroll down to see Christina’s credentials. SERVICES: INTERNAL AUDIT Internal audit is focused on operational effectiveness, compliance, and risk. It examines how organizations function and offers solutions for improvement. DATA ANALYTICS Data analytics uses computer assisted audit techniques (CAATs) and data visualization software to find patterns, trends, errors, anomalies, waste, abuse, and fraud. LITIGATION SUPPORT Litigation support assists organizations involved in legal disputes and their attorneys. It can involve examining evidence, preparing exhibits, or providing testimony in court. DISPUTE RESOLUTION Dispute Resolution is a method of using an impartial person to help settle conflicts outside of court. Examples are serving as a mediator, ombudsman, or facilitator. RISK SERVICES Risk services focus on insurance premiums, coverage, claims, loss control, or general risk management to reduce liability or handle any matters that arise.
