Long Short Advisors was established in 2010 to launch a mutual fund as an access vehicle to a seasoned long/short equity hedge fund. Traditional long/short investing is a compelling way to seek attractive results in all market environments. A traditional long/short strategy utilizes both long positions and short positions as primary drivers of returns while simultaneously attempting to reduce portfolio volatility. A successful long/short strategy seeks to identify attractive long-term upside opportunities and balance these long holdings with a robust short book. It is our belief that long-term risk-adjusted performance is best achieved by utilizing independent money managers who focus both on preservation and growth of capital through investing in both long and short investment opportunities. Unfortunately many of the managers with these skill sets are unavailable in the 1940 act mutual fund structure. The LS Opportunity Fund (LSOFX) provides access to an experienced long/short equity manager (Sub-Advisor) in a liquid, daily-valued structure. In addition to daily liquidity, '40 Act funds provide full portfolio transparency, low minimum investments, limited leverage and do not charge any performance fees. If you are like many investors trying to access high quality long/short strategies you have experienced a variety of issues with investing outside of the 1940 act mutual fund structure. In particular, we have identified some of the common problems with the typical hedge fund structure here, as related to us by several investment advisors. Financial professionals may have experienced issues of investment quality and flexibility in the past when selecting long/short strategies. We have also identified some of the common problems faced by financial professionals and LSA's respective solutions here. We understand that while 1940 Act mutual funds have standardized reporting, it is still difficult to discern the true differences between a basket of funds that claim to have the same strategy, such as long/short equity. We have identified a checklist for all long/short equity managers here to help you with your research on all funds within our space.
